The Blueprint
We just pulled the trigger and converted the blog portion of our site over to WordPress. Previously, it was running on Expression Engine along with the rest of the site, but to be honest the Admin area just isn’t up to par with what WordPress has done with their latest releases. We all felt that the workflow just wasn’t where we wanted it. If someone else needed to preview/review a post before it goes live, the EE admin area just gets in the way of doing that easily. The UI for WordPress is 10 times better and 10 times faster to do things such as put images inside of posts, etc.. And honestly… the way EE handles comment/form SPAM is just very antiquated.
There are still things I LOVE about EE. Their templating is by far the best I’ve ever used and the robustness of the rest of it as a full blown CMS enables us to do just about anything we want. But when it comes to blogging… I believe that WordPress really has it locked up right now. Total cutover time took about 3-4 hours and I consider myself only marginal at wordpress integration. The toughest thing, by far, was ensuring that the RSS feed didn’t break. So anyway, this will hopefully remove a few roadblocks to getting some posts out the door that we have been talking about for a few months.

I believe WordPress has the best template system I ever seen. Congrats for converting to WP.
But how did you do it?? I have been looking all over the place for a successful migration that can be replicated!
Mindy,
Most of the work was transferring the EE template to the WP templates. And then having to call the functions that lists out recent posts and categories, etc…
But that is only done if you want your EXACT template. If you just want to migrate over your content and use a WP template that has already been built its much easier. WP has an import feature that does a lot of the heavy lifting. They don’t import directly from Expression Engine but you can import from your RSS feed. Then it’s just going through and cleaning up the smaller details.
It’s def not an easy task but it’s not super hard either.
